Podium alternatives for small businesses in Canada

It depends on what you use Podium for. For a full suite with texting and a shared inbox, Birdeye is the closest match, and it is also quote-based. For review requests by text and email, NiceJob starts at US$75 a month, GatherUp at US$99 on annual billing. For more Google reviews at one counter, Google's free review link, a one-time NFC stand or Oh Tap! costs much less.

What Podium does, and why owners look elsewhere

Podium is a messaging and reviews platform for local businesses. Its own pages describe text-message review invites, AI-written review replies, one inbox for texts, calls, email and social messages, website chat and Podium Payments. Its pricing page lists no prices and asks you to talk to its sales team.

Third-party pricing guides put its Core plan at about US$399 a month, but that figure does not come from Podium, so ask for a written quote. Podium's terms of service (version 7.0, effective 15 October 2026) set a 12-month initial term that renews automatically unless you give written notice at least 30 days before it ends.

If you are looking for an alternative, decide first which job you need done: a similar suite with published prices, or simply more Google reviews without a monthly platform. The table covers both. Oh Tap! wrote this guide and sells one of the options, so we say plainly where another one fits better.

Checked 31 October 2026 on each company's own pages, except figures marked third-party; Birdeye's quote-only pricing page was last read on 19 October 2026. US-dollar prices are as each company lists them; Oh Tap! prices are in Canadian dollars.

Review software with published prices

NiceJob lists Starter at US$75 a month and Pro at US$125 a month, in US dollars, with no contracts and a 14-day free trial. Starter sends review requests by text and email and adds review widgets to your website; Pro adds referral campaigns, AI-written review replies and rebooking reminders. A done-for-you website costs extra, at US$99 a month plus a US$199 setup fee.

GatherUp lists US$99 a month for one location on annual billing, with a month-to-month option and a 14-day trial that needs no card. Each location gets up to 300 text messages and 3,000 emails a month for review and feedback requests, plus AI-drafted replies, surveys, QR codes and review widgets.

Birdeye, like Podium, quotes through sales. Its pages describe review requests by text and email, AI review replies, listings management and a shared messaging inbox. Third-party price trackers report plans from about US$299 per location a month on annual terms; Birdeye does not publish those figures itself.

Low-cost ways to get more Google reviews

Google Business Profile is free. From your profile, choose Read reviews, then Get more reviews, to copy a review link or download a QR code (the QR code needs a computer browser). Printed on a counter card, a receipt or an email signature, it costs almost nothing and works on any phone with a camera.

One-time NFC review stands and cards add a tap on top of a QR code. They are sold on Amazon.ca and by Canadian and US sellers, mostly with no monthly fee; TAPro Cards, for example, listed stands at US$31 to US$34 and cards at US$25 to US$29 on sale on 31 October 2026. You set them up yourself, and many open one fixed link.

None of these send follow-up texts or manage replies. They work while the customer is still in front of you, which suits a counter, a chair or a table.

Where Oh Tap! fits, and where it does not

Oh Tap! is a tap point plus a managed page, not a reputation suite. A customer taps an Oh Tap! stand, tile, card or sticker, or scans its printed QR code, and your branded page opens with your Google review link, menu, booking and contact card. Oh Tap! builds the page before the hardware ships and makes changes when you ask.

The Free plan is $0 and includes a free Smart Sticker (you pay $4.99 shipping), your page and your review link. Pro is $9 CAD a month per location and adds the live menu, booking links, analytics and unlimited edits made by a person. Stands, tiles and cards are $20 CAD each at launch pricing, with no per-tap fees.

It does not send review requests by text or email, run a shared inbox, take payments or reply to reviews. If you need those, Podium, Birdeye, NiceJob or GatherUp are the better fit, and a tap point can sit alongside any of them.

How to choose

Start from the job you need done rather than the brand:

  • Several locations, and you want texting, an inbox and payments in one place: ask Podium and Birdeye for written quotes and compare the contract terms.
  • Automatic review requests after each job, at a published price: NiceJob or GatherUp, both with free trials.
  • One location, and you mainly want more Google reviews: start with Google's free link, then add a tap point where customers pay.
  • You want to set up a stand yourself and never pay monthly: a one-time NFC stand.
  • You want the stand, the page and later changes handled for you: Oh Tap!, from $0 on the Free plan.
Questions

Questions, answered.

Podium does not publish prices. Its pricing page, checked on 31 October 2026, shows no amounts and asks you to talk to its sales team. Third-party guides report its Core plan at about US$399 a month, but those figures are not from Podium, so ask for a written quote that states the currency, the term and any setup fees.
